¡¡¡¡ HANOI, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh on Tuesday highly appreciated the role of the General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization (AIPO) in the development of ASEAN.

¡¡¡¡While meeting with the heads of delegations to the 23rd AIPO, which is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, Manh said that the issues discussed by AIPO are either burning or lasting ones, considering them as effective contributions and lasting-significant activities to the development of each ASEAN member and AIPO in many years.

¡¡¡¡The party leader also said parliaments of ASEAN countries should take active measures to support and assist ASEAN governments to narrow the development gap of ASEAN, build an ASEANof peace, stability, and solidarity, strive for goals set out in the Hanoi Plan of Action and Vision 2020.

¡¡¡¡On the same day, committees of AIPO discussed political and socio-economic issues, and talked with observers on keeping peace and stability in the region and the world, as well as measures of strengthening economic, trade, investment cooperation and environmental conservation. Enditem
