Cuba donates insecticide to China's flood-hit areas

Xinhuanet 2002-09-10 16:05:55

””””BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The Cuban government donated 2,000 liters of insecticides worth 50,000 yuan (6,041 US dollars) to China Tuesday to help fight mosquitoes in its flood affected areas.

””””Chinese Vice-Minister of Health Huang Jiefu and Cuban Ambassador to China Alberto Rodriguez Arufe attended the donation ceremony.

””””Arufe expressed the deep concern of the Cuban government for the flood-hit areas and for people living in these areas, adding that the donation showed the fraternal friendship between the two countries.

””””Huang said the health authority would immediately send insecticides to the flood-hit areas, such as south China's Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to kill mosquitoes which may spread disease.

””””Considering the enduring effects of the flood, health sectors at various levels would also make further efforts to prevent epidemics.

””””Huang said the health authority had drawn up a plan for preventing infectious diseases in flood-affected areas, and medical treatment and disease prevention was underway.

””””Infectious diseases in all flood-hit areas were under control, said Huang. Enditem
