Vietnam approves grant for construction in flood-prone region

””””HANOI, Sept. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The Vietnamese government has approved another grant of 3.2 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (213 million US dollars) for construction in flood-prone areas in the country's Mekong Delta, according to a report of Vietnam News Agency on Wednesday.

””””Mekong Delta provinces have completed the construction of 124 out of a planned 260 residential clusters, providing 43,500 households in deep-flooded areas with accommodation during the flood season.

””””According to the National Hydro-Meteorology Forecast Center, flood water in the Mekong Delta is reaching a new peak, rising 0.4-0.6m higher than the highest warning level.

””””In the Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds) and the Long Xuyen quadrangle, flood water is swelling between 10cm and 15cm a day and continues to spread on a large scale, affecting provinces in the upper basin and other provinces in the region.

””””Southern provinces are taking drastic measures to combat the floods. An Giang province has established 264 rescue teams, while Dong Thap province has moved 3,800 homes in Thanh Binh, Tam Nong and Tan Hong district to safe places and plans to evacuate 8,000 more households.

””””Flood and storm control units in Long An province have completed the construction of 50 residential clusters, providing shelters for 7,500 families.
