””””HANOI, Aug. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Nam Cam crime ring scandal in Vietnam
continues to rock the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department, with another nine
policemen expelled from the force last Monday, according to a report of
Vietnam's News Agency on Wednesday.
””””The nine policemen had already been suspended on charges of accepting
bribes from crime boss Nam Cam, failing to take full measures to investigate the
gang, and falsifying official documents relating to the case. The officers
occupied positions ranging from lieutenant to senior lieutenant colonel.
””””More than 40 police officials have been suspended over the scandal so far,
of whom 20 have been demoted. Formal charges have been pressed against 14 of
them.
””””Truong Van Cam, notoriously known as "Nam Cam", is the ring leader of a
underworld gang on the charges of murder, assault, gambling, fraud and bribery.
””””Nam Cam was first arrested in May 1995 and sent to a re-education camp.
However, he was released after two and a half years of his three-year sentence
before being re-arrested in December last year on murder, gambling syndication,
drug trafficking, prostitution and extortion charges. Enditem
