Myanmar releases 13 more prisoners

””””YANGON, July 31 (Xinhuanet) -- The Myanmar authorities Wednesday released 13 more prisoners serving sentences for alleged breach oflaw, according to a government statement.

””””The 13 individuals freed from "correctional facilities" are identified as non-political-party members.

””””The statement said the government will continue to release moreindividuals who are considered causing no harm to the country nor threaten the existing peace, stability and unity of the nation.

””””On last weekend, the authorities released 32 prisoners including 18 individuals and 14 members of the opposition NationalLeague for Democracy (NLD).

””””The release has brought the total number of freed NLD members and its activists to 297 since January 2001 including the 43 released after restriction on Aung San Suu Kyi (ASSK), NLD generalsecretary, was lifted on May 6.

””””The increase in the number of release of detainees by the Myanmar military is seen as a gesture before a scheduled trip on Friday to Myanmar of Razali Ismail, Special Envoy of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Enditem
