¡¡¡¡ANKARA, Turkey, July 13 (Xinhuanet) -- New excavations at Turkey's western ancient site of Troy will start on July 15, reported the Anatolian News Agency on Saturday.

¡¡¡¡Mustafa Sevim, culture director of province of Canakkale in western Turkey, said German archaeologist Manfred Korfmann already headed his team to Canakkale, where he will be in charge of the excavations.

¡¡¡¡Around 70 Turkish and foreign archaeologists will join the work which is expected to last for two months.

¡¡¡¡Ancient Greek poet Homer immortalized Truva (Troy) in his stories of King Priam, Hector, Paris and the beautiful Helen.

¡¡¡¡Archaeological work in the past two centuries at the historical site off the Aegean Sea revealed nine separate periods of settlement, including ruins of city walls, house foundations, a temple and a theater.

¡¡¡¡In the late 19th century, a German archaeologist proved that neighboring Greeks invaded Troy in the 12th century B.C.

¡¡¡¡A symbolic wooden Trojan horse can be seen at the site to commemorate the legendary war. Enditem
