India Calls U.S. Magazine Article as "Biased"

Xinhuanet 2002-06-17 23:11:13

ˇˇˇˇNEW DELHI, June 17 (Xinhuanet) - India Monday described an article on its Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee carried by the "Time" magazine of the United States as "completely biased" and "baseless".

ˇˇˇˇ"It certainly doesn't fall into the category of the kind of reporting expected from Time magazine," spokeswomen of the External Affairs Ministry Nirupama Rao said at the regular press briefing here.

ˇˇˇˇThe weekly reported in its latest edition that India's nuclear arsenal was in the hands of "irresponsible people" and that Vajpayee was not in good health.

ˇˇˇˇIndia's view in this regard had been made known to the editor of the magazine, Rao said.

ˇˇˇˇIt was "completely without foundation. It is baseless and ill-advised. It is a completely biased and ill-informed article," she added.

ˇˇˇˇMeanwhile, Indian Railway Minister Nitish Kumar has demanded anunconditional apology from the weekly, saying that it had "hurt the feeling" of the Indian people by publishing such a story whichmounted vicious attack on Vajpayee.

ˇˇˇˇDescribed the story as "biased and based on lies", Kumar, who is also a senior leader of Samata Party, said that it was an "irresponsible piece of writing". Enditem
