NIIGATA, Japan, June 15 (Xinhuanet) -- England coach Sven-Goran
Eriksson said after his soccer squad beat Denmark 3-0 to reach the
quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup here Saturday evening that
they deserved the win but were a little lucky in scoring three.
Eriksson said, "I think we deserved it. Maybe we were a little
bit lucky. Maybe 3-0 is too much but we won it and we are in the
quarter finals."
Striker and goalscorer Michael Owen had come off in the second
half with a groin strain, he said, adding, "We don't think it's a
bad one and he'll be available for the next game"
Midfielder Paul Scholes had twisted an ankle, he said. "Again,
it's not too bad."
"In the second half we defended very well," he noted.
According to the schedule, England will take on the winner of
Monday's Brazil-Belgium knockout match in their quater-final game.
It is obvious that the four-time champions Brazil is the most
possible opponents.
Eriksson said, "Now we have six days before the next game. We
have time to rest, recover and heal the injuries." Enditem |
