Vietnam Declares More Than 98 Percent Turnout for NA Election

Xinhuanet 2002-05-21 10:12:08
HANOI, May 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Vietnam's National Election Council
declared a 98.85 percent turnout for the 11th National Assembly (
NA) Election on Sunday.
According to a press release of the National Election Council,
49,211,275 of the registered 49,783,769 voters nationwide went to
the polls.
Many cities and provinces recorded turnouts of more than 99
percent. Central Da Nang city and southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau
province, led the country with a rate of 99.99 percent. Ho Chi
Minh City recorded 99.37 percent.
The National Election Council said rains and flash floods in
some northern mountainous provinces caused problems for voters in
Nghe An, Vinh Phuc and Lao Cai. But despite the hurdles, most
voters in these areas managed to cast their votes.
Vote counting is going on in all constituencies, added the
Council.
Vietnam started its 11th National Assembly Election on Sunday
morning.  Enditem
