Chinese Vice Finance Minister Praises ADB's Role

Xinhuanet 2002-05-11 16:27:20
SHANGHAI, May 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The 35th Annual Meeting of the
Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was held in
a period when the global development is at a crucial stage,
Chinese Vice Finance Minister Jin Liqun said here Saturday.
As the largest institute for development in Asia, the ADB
assumes an important mission in promoting the development and
prosperity of Asia. To fulfill the mission, all ADB members should
improve their abilities in development, he said in a speech
delivered at the on-going ADB 35th annual meeting being held in
Shanghai, China's leading industrial center.
The ADB has made due contributions to Asia's development under
the leadership of President Tadao Chino. It has created a much
more favorable condition in improving its services by readjusting
its internal organs and offering new forms of loans, he said.
Jin urged the ADB to increase potential capital funds and
fulfill the anti-poverty task and called on major convertible
currency countries to stabilize the exchange rate. Developed
countries should relieve the pressure of trade protectionism and
open their market wider to Asian countries.
He said China is willing to contribute to promoting mutual
development and common prosperity of Asia along with other Asian
countries.  Enditem
