TEHRAN, April 26
(Xinhuanet) -- Moderate earthquakes have totally destroyed 10 villages,
killed two people and injured 56 others in Iran's western province of
Kermanshah, the official IRNA news agency reported Friday.
Three tremors measuring 3.9 to 4.9 on the Richter scale occurred Thursday in
densely populated areas, where 50 other villages were partly damaged and

in the calamity, which also destroyed local water, electricity and telephone
facilities, the report said. The local Red Crescent has
dispatched 20 relief teams to the quake-stricken regions with tents,
blankets, heaters, canned food and bread. Iran is frequented
by earthquakes with a high incidence of over 950 as of 1991, killing a total
of 17,600 people and injuring 53, 300 others. Enditem |
