Vietnam Opposes U.S. Expanding Anti-Terrorism War to Iraq

Xinhuanet 2002-04-04 19:02:10
HANOI, April 4 (Xinhuanet) -- A Vietnamese spokewoman Thursday
said Vietnam opposes the possibility of the U.S. expanding anti-
terrorism war to Iraq.
At a regular press conference here, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry
Spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh noted that Vietnam resolutely condemns
and opposes terrorist acts in any forms.
"We are of the view that measures and international cooperation
to fight against terrorism should be conducted in conformity with
the United Nations Charter and international law, should guarantee
peace, stability and security of each country, region and the
entire world and protect the peaceful life of the people", she
said.
"It is unacceptable to take advantage of the fight against
terrorism to serve private intents, especially to interfere into
the internal affairs of other countries and bring harms to
innocent civilians", Thanh stressed.
Together with the international community, she said, Vietnam
very much deplores reports that the United States is planning to
attack Iraq.
The Vietnamese spokeswoman also stressed that an unwarranted
attack on Iraq constitutes an infringement upon independence,
sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, causing suffering
to the Iraqi people, violating the United Nations Charter,
disrupting peace and stability in the region and the world.
"Definitely such an attack will not get consent of the
international community," she said.   Enditem
