HANOI, April 4
(Xinhuanet) -- Vietnam will use its Cam Ranh seaport to serve the country's
national development, a Vietnamese spokeswoman announced here
Thursday. Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Phan Thuy
Thanh made the announcement while answering a question about Cam Ranh naval
seaport at a regular press conference here Thursday.
According to a bilateral agreement, the Vietnamese spokeswoman said, Vietnam
and Russia will complete the legal procedure to terminate before the
expiration date the agreement on Cam Ranh port signed in 1979 and the
handover of the port before the July 1, 2002. "Cam Ranh is
the port of many potentials and superiorities. Currently there are many
different plans to develop it", Thanh noted, adding that Vietnam will choose
an appropriate plan to most efficiently exploit its potentias and
superiorities to serve the national development of the
country. "On the other hand, we are interested in proposals from
those countries that want to contribute to Vietnam's economic
development", she added. Vietnam and the former Soviet
Unions signed an agreement on leasing Cam Ranh seaport of Vietnam for 25
