COLOMBO, April 1
(Xinhuanet) -- A motion to impeach Sri Lanka's Chief Justice Sarath Nanda
Silva will be presented to Parliament soon, the state-owned Daily News
reported Monday. Quoting political sources the paper said a
special committee comprising eminent lawyers had already prepared the motion
refining an earlier motion and condensing the charges. The
earlier motion was presented last year and signed by 77 members of the then
main opposition United National Party and the leftist JVP or the People's
Liberation Front, but it lapsed with the dissolution of Parliament in
October upon order of President Chandrika Kumaratunga to avoid a defeat of
her ruling People's Alliance government in a no-confidence motion against
it. Enditem |
