ˇˇˇˇYANGON, March 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The Myanmar government set free seven more
members of the opposition National League for Democracy(NLD) here Friday, an
official Information Sheet said.
ˇˇˇˇThe seven men, released from various "correctional institutions", are
identified as U Thein Zaw, U Than Swe, U Tin Myaing, U KhinMaung Lin, U Win Ni
Oo, U Thein Htay and U Aung Kyi Myint.
ˇˇˇˇThe release has brought to 244 the total number of freed NLD members and
its activists since January 2001.
ˇˇˇˇMeanwhile, the government has also been releasing criminal offenders on
humanitarian grounds since February 22 this year, after United Nations Human
Rights Envoy to Myanmar Paulo Sergio Pinheiro paid a visit to the country to
inspect its human rights situation.
ˇˇˇˇThe total number of such freed female detainees, who are eitherpregnant or
