HANOI, March
16 (Xinhuanet) -- Another group of 35 Vietnamese ethnic minority people who
had illegally fled to Cambodia from Vietnam's Tay Nguyen provinces left
Cambodia's Mondulkiri province to return home on Friday, local daily Vietnam
News (VNS) reported on Saturday. They were welcomed at the
border gate by Gia Lai provincial authorities upon their return on Friday.
The latest repatriation followed the return of 43 illegal
migrants of the country on Thursday. After arriving at the
Le Thanh border gate in Duc Co District of Gia Lai province, the returnees
were given an initial allowance of 500,000 Vietnamese dong (30 U.S. dollars),
to help stabilize their lives. The authorities of Cambodia's
Mondulkiri province had taken them to the Cambodia-Vietnam border, according
to the returnees. Many people still living in make-shift camps
in Cambodia were looking forward to returning home to their families, the
VNS quoted some of the returnees as saying. More than 1,000
minority villagers in Vietnam's Tay Nguyen provinces illegally crossed into
Cambodia last year. Enditem |
