Vietnam's 10th National Assembly Starts Final Session

   HANOI, March 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van
Khai appealed the whole country for further renovation and
development to a new height.
   Khai made the remarks while delivering a report on the
government's work at the 11th session of the 10th National
Assembly (NA) of Vietnam which opened here Friday.
   In his report, Khai stressed the economy of the country needs
to improve the quality of development, raising remarkably
productivity, competitiveness and efficiency, insuring the
independence and self-determination in the process of
international intergration of the economy.
   He urged to further combine economic growth with the cultural
development to realize social progress and equality.
   Khai emphasised that the country's socio-economic development
should be combined with the consolidating security and national
defense, and keeping political and social stability.
   He also expressed his hope that the next government will
continue renovation on governmental organization, raising the
efficency of the government's management in order to bring the
creative strength of the whole people into full play, so as to
make the country develop rapidly and stably.
   At the opening ceremony, Chairman of the National Assembly of
Vietnam Nguyen Van An made a review report of the 10th National
Assembly in the 1997-2002 period.
   The final session, which is expected to last 20 days, is
scheduled to pass revised laws on Organization of People's Court,
and Organization of People's Procuracy, as well as amendments and
supplements to some provisions of Labor Code.  Enditem
