HANOI, March 11
(Xinhuanet) -- Vietnam plans to send 300 workers to Malaysia as a result of
a recent labor cooperation contract signed between Malaysia's Hualon Textile
Plant and Vietnam's Labor Overseas Development Corporation.
This will be the first batch of Vietnamese guest workers sent to that
country, according to an official of the Labor Overseas Development
Corporation. These Vietnamese workers, aged between 21-30, will
receive a total monthly payment of 263 U.S. dollars each at the minimum,
including 119 dollars for their 8-hour per day labor. Under
the contract, the Malaysian partner will pay for their meals, accommodation
and costs of daily travels between their homes and workplaces, as well as
one-way air fare from Malaysia to Vietnam. They will also be
given healthcare insurance during their three- year labor tenure which may be
extended for two more years if agreed upon by the employer and the
employee. Many Vietnamese businesses involved in labor export
have sent missions to Malaysia to explore the market and many of them have
signed framework contracts with Malaysia brokers. An
official of the Department for Labor Export Management under the Ministry of
Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs claimed that Vietnam will be able to
send as many as 200,000 workers to Malaysia.
