(Xinhuanet) -- Five people including a woman were killed and 20 others
injured when a hand grenade exploded at the ruling United National
Party(UNP) election rally at Kalubowila, a suburb of capital Colombo on
Friday night, police said. It is reported that an unidentified
gang member threw the hand grenade at the UNP election
rally. This is the first explosion at the local election rally.
Officials said that separatist Tamil Tiger rebels who are observing an
indefinite ceasefire with government troops are not involved in the
attack. Local elections are scheduled to be held later this
