¡¡¡¡COLOMBO, February 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Over 6,000 Sri Lankan refugeeswho migrated to neighboring India due to the protracted ethnic warin the north and east of the country will return to the island as the government and separatist Tamil Tiger rebels are observing their unilateral ceasefire, the state-run Daily News said on Monday.

¡¡¡¡The refugees who left the country to settle in Tamil Nadu of India following the escalation of the war had caused a severe burden to the Indian government.

¡¡¡¡Following the recent truce which is being observed between the government of Sri Lanka and Tamil rebels, they had requested both governments to ensure their safe return to Sri Lanka, the paper said.

¡¡¡¡As their homes have been severely damaged, Minister of Rehabilitation Jayalath Jayawardena has ordered that basic amenities be provided for them to resettle with their families in their own properties.

¡¡¡¡They will also be provided equipment to enable them to engage in their livelihood, according to the paper. Enditem
