¡¡¡¡COLOMBO, January 30 (Xinhuanet) -- A Sri Lankan government soldier was killed and another injured when a grenade exploded accidentally in northern Jaffna peninsula on Wednesday, the defense ministry said.

¡¡¡¡This is the first casualty after the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) started to observe their unilateral ceasefire since Christmas eve last year. There has been no report of incidents of ceasefire violation.

¡¡¡¡The ministry said that the government troops are on a clearing operation in Jaffna when the explosion took place. The injured solider has been rushed to nearby hospital. Enditem
