BUSAN, Oct. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- In the closing day of swimming competitions at the Asian Games, South Korea and Uzbekistan shareda gold in the men's 50 meters freestyle, winning the host nation and the West Asian country their first and only swimming gold at the Asian Games Saturday.

Kim Min-suk of South Korea and Nachaev Ravil of Uzbekistan bothclocked 22.86 seconds as the timing machine showed precisely.

Emotions soared among the spectators as the 23-year-old South Korean hero stood on the highest level of the podium representing both himself and his country.

"I am very happy to win a gold for my country and my city. I was born in Busan and grow up in Busan." said kim. "I made mistakes in the men's 100m freestyle, so I lost the game. But today I finally took a gold before my family, my relatives, my city and my country."

"We have been expecting the gold for long. Kim is a very good swimmer in short-course freestyle races," said Lee Moon Hee, a female coach of the team.

The host nation had been aiming for two golds in the pool, considering that China is strong in women's events and Japan in men's, according to Kim Bong-jo, the head coach of the team.

South Korea missed its chance of grabbing a gold in the men's 1,500m freestyle and the women's 50m freestyle, both blocked by China.

China won the other four golds Saturday, adding its swimming golds to 20 out of 32.

At the Asiad pool, two Asian records fell Saturday as Chinese swimmers geared up in the grabbing races of the women's 800m freestyle and the women's 100m medley relay, bettering the old marks by 1.12 seconds and 1.46 seconds respectively.

Chinese Qi Hui won her third gold in the women's 400m individual medley with a time of four minutes 40.37 seconds, beating Maiko Fujino of Japan into the second place.

The youngest Chinese swimmer Wu Peng shocked everybody as he won his third gold in the men's 200m backstroke after he grabbed golds from Japanese in the men's 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley.

"I think I am more all-rounded than the genius Australian, Ian Thorpe, because Thorpe only targets freestyle, but I can swim butterfly, backstroke and individual medley," said Wu after the meet. Enditem
